Sport: Today we held the Autumn Sweep, which saw 22 anglers take to the water to fish it out for a prize pot of £385.00. The conditions weren’t brilliant for fishing as it was very bright for most of the day. But almost all the competitors caught fish and between them they caught 67 trout to 10lbs, which gave an average of just over 3 trout per person. At the top of the pile was Graham Bell who is carrying on a run of success on Stocks. Graham fished an intermediate line with a white Minkie booby and a lime green blob to take 10 fish. Most of them were from Hollins but he took a few from Gull Island. In 2nd place was Richard Hood who concentrated his efforts over the Northern Shallows. He fished a combination of nymphs and lures and caught on both to end with a final tally of 7. In 3rd place was Nick Thornborrow who pipped his boat partner Pete Navin on weight to take the final cash prize. Nick and Pete fished both the Islands with orange UV tadpoles and finished the day with 12 trout between them. The best fish went to 14-year-old Ryan Mathews as well as winning cracking reel Ryan has become the latest member of the Stocks Doubles club with a 10lb rainbow. Good angling!
