Sport: only a couple of angles on today due to a not too great forecast. Having said that the weather has been pretty darn good with even a fair few fish moving in the margins. I think that Ben and the rest off the team here would agree with me that the reservoir is just about at the ideal height at the moment. The fish will continue to move up and down the margins and will fall for a well-presented fry pattern and indeed even those Diawl bachs still.
Ben informs me that he is bringing over some cracking fish tomorrow morning that should really stir things up.
Bell Point, Barnes Quarry, and Bens beach will all fish well over the next few days. Damsels, Montana’s and green peas should take the fish but like I said nymphing should not be over looked.
Temperatures remain pretty mild for the time of year and I have a feeling it’s going to be a good week.
Tight lines Matthew.

Sport: Sunday saw a stiff breeze making the fishing a little tricky but Stocks regular Mark Wilson had three fish from bell point on a small black booby. Out on the boats the top anglers both in the same boat were Peter Andrews and Andrew Bentley who had 19 fish to the boat Peter being top individual with 12 again the booby was the top pattern
Monday was a quiet day at stocks with just a couple of boats out with constant drizzle-putting anglers off
This morning saw more drizzle but this soon cleared to leave a good fishing day with warm overcast conditions and only a slight breeze, Our own Paul Bebb was on the water today with Neil Parkinson they managed 4 fish each with the Green Pea and Pauls own cruncher doing the damage. Paul commented on the fact that the fish wanted it almost static. Top honours though go to Simon Conway with 5 fish all falling to a green dabbler. From the bank Mark Chadwick had 4 cracking Rainbows all on the East Bank all falling to a P.T.N nymph. With more settled weather to come the fishing is sure to remain constant and exciting. Now that the wind seams to have settled into one direction the fishing is coming into its own. A good drift is to be had down the East bank were the fish are up in the water looking for buzzer and nymphs. Frank Hartley had 5 good fish to the net on boobies and diawl bachs in all but a few hours. Mark Gilston however managed 9 trout in all but 5 hours! Mark opted for a viva with his boat partner landing a further 4 on cat’s whiskers. Good angling guys.
Anton Gysbers had a good morning with 4 trout to the net in the first 2 hours of the morning. Anton also found the Diawl bachs to be doing the business. Incidentally both Anton and Rudolph caught on the same diawl bachs fishing from Barnes Quarry round to Bell Point.
It should be a good weekend of sport with the fish still looking to the surface.

Sport: Bank House has fished really well over the last week or so with a variety of methods producing good bags of fish. The trout are mainly feeding on small black buzzers that have been hatching off at regular intervals. But they are also taking a variety terrestrials that are falling with the autumn leaves and sedges that have been emerging mainly in the evenings. The variety of food stuffs available may explain why such a variety of different methods are working. I have been targeting the buzzer feeders with a variation of the washing line rig. A small black dry such as a Griffith Gnat replaces the usual booby on the point and small black buzzers take the dropper places. If the gnat on the point sinks that I just try to fish it static as it slowly sinks through the water. This is a deadly method that will probably continue work well throughout the winter months.
The best catch taken over the last week was caught by Steve Carter who used a completely different tactic. Steve used a bibio blob to pull the trout away from their regular food supply and it was very effective. Steve found feeding trout under patches of floating leaves. However they were difficult to target as his flies were easily lost amongst the litter. The disturbance made by a bushy fly, like the bibio blob, pulled back just under the surface was too much for 12 fine trout to resist and many others considered it as they chased it in.
The best bag was taken by Colin Gibbons whose first fish of the day tipped the scales to 14lbs content with his first Bank House double Colin returned to the water to take a second trout of 13lbs 8oz! He then added to more rainbows of 4lbs 8oz and 3lbs to lift his four fish bag weight to a staggering 35lbs! Colin’s bumper bag fell to mini cats whisker and sunk daddy long legs. Colin caught two of the 7 double figure trout to be caught since September 14th.

Sport: I hate clichés but “Bright and breezy never easy” sums up today. The best of the action though came from drifting boats with Roy Dixon and Duncan Watson sharing top honours on the boats with 4 fish each. Duncan had his fish in quick succession this morning before the sun got too high in the sky and the cloud broke he used a silver head home tied pattern to take his fish and found the willows the best area. On the bank the anglers found it a little tougher although Todays top rod of 10 fish came from bank angler Gareth Evans who bucked the trend today and landed a very impressive 10 fish. All from bell point with a yellow booby fished on a sinking line with a jerky retrieve. Also on the bank Paul Wilcock had a good catch of 5 fish again to a booby. See you in the lodge Pete

Sport: Warm settled overcast conditions looked perfect for a good days fishing. A good turnout at stocks today with several anglers returning good catches. On the bank stocks regular Mark Wilson had a cracking days sport returning 6 trout all on a black shipman’s buzzer mark also commented on the fact that he could have had 3 times as many fish with the amount of pulls and nips he had. Top rod on the bank Goes to Dave Flitcroft with 8 fish. Dave fished all the way from Ben s Beach to the Jetty and had fish all the way along. He found a small black lure fished very slowly on a floating line the best method. Out on the boats top angler today was Gary Allen with 6 fish on a half-day ticket. Gary had all his fish from around Willow Island on a booby fished on the washing line technique. The Weather looks settled again tomorrow so the great sports were having recently should continue. Bank Rod Av: 3.00 fish per angler

Sport: A cracking day for drifting with a steady breeze holding the boat tight in to the margins. John Sutton got himself to the east bank were he had 14 fish in a half day session. John Hooked and lost a further 10 fish, he found that two orange blobs pulled on an intermediate did the trick. John commented on the quality of the 5lb 8oz rainbow he caught and that all the fish came from tight in to the margins. Good angling John! Regulars Karl and John found the fish on the drift too with 8 in a short session. They made contact with some cracking brownies up by the dam with a little Zulu doing the damage on a floater. Often when the fish are in the margins you will have more success approaching them from the boat, if you were to wade from the shore you would spook the fish whereas from the boat you can drop your flies right into the banking from 20 plus yards away.
Mike Croston had a good day from the bank were he tempted 8 fish from Bell Point. Mike used a team of black hoppers on a floater.
Things are looking great for the weekend.

Sport: Today we held the Autumn Sweep, which saw 22 anglers take to the water to fish it out for a prize pot of £385.00. The conditions weren’t brilliant for fishing as it was very bright for most of the day. But almost all the competitors caught fish and between them they caught 67 trout to 10lbs, which gave an average of just over 3 trout per person. At the top of the pile was Graham Bell who is carrying on a run of success on Stocks. Graham fished an intermediate line with a white Minkie booby and a lime green blob to take 10 fish. Most of them were from Hollins but he took a few from Gull Island. In 2nd place was Richard Hood who concentrated his efforts over the Northern Shallows. He fished a combination of nymphs and lures and caught on both to end with a final tally of 7. In 3rd place was Nick Thornborrow who pipped his boat partner Pete Navin on weight to take the final cash prize. Nick and Pete fished both the Islands with orange UV tadpoles and finished the day with 12 trout between them. The best fish went to 14-year-old Ryan Mathews as well as winning cracking reel Ryan has become the latest member of the Stocks Doubles club with a 10lb rainbow. Good angling! Sport: With more glorious weather today the bright conditions made things a little trickier around the middle if the day. The bank out fished the boats today with several good bags coming to the scales, Dave flitcroft had a cracking days fishing all along the west bank using small black and green lures he weighed in a five fish limit of 11lb 12oz nice fishing Dave! Also on the bank were friends Mr Ferguson and Dave Sherriff, they both had a good days fishing dave had five cracking trout on a buzzer but his mate Mr Ferguson had the top catch of the day with a very impressive 9 fish all falling to the black nomad. On the boats the angling was a little bit tougher But Ian Horton and Anthony Thompson had a great four-hour stint landing 2 fish each from Hollins bay on lures. Also on a half-day ticket was regular Lee Cowking he fished red Diawl Bachs in the Northern Shallows to take 3 fish. The top rod on the boats however was the ever-consistent Peter Andrews who had seven fish on cat’s whisker lures from Gull Island. The lovely weather looks set to continue for a few days yet so what better way to spend a great afternoon than out on a boat. See you in the lodge Pete.

Sport: What smashing weather we had again today, just like summer! There were some good catches recorded today with the best sport falling to the bank anglers. Jim Baron took top catch today with a credible 12 fish. Jim caught all his fish from the two trees area with an olive cats whisker fished on a floating line or an olive booby fished on a fast sinking line both being effective tactics for Jim. Also in amongst the trout today was Ray Entwistle who caught a total of 8 fish. Ray caught his fish from the ever productive Bell point with a home tied fritz lure being the best pattern for Ray. With the water at full level as it is early in the season, the trout are now tight to the margins as this is where most of their food is, those successful boat anglers are taking their fish in the shallow, newly flooded areas, worth remembering when boat fishing. See you on the water Paul.
