Monday March 5th to Monday March 12th

We re-open the fishery on Monday March 5th after the ‘Beast from the East’ had subsided. A big thaw immediately followed, and snow melt from the surrounding hills flowed down into Stocks. This cooled the water right down to about 2 degrees. This influx of cold water made the trout very lethargic and the fishing has been very difficult. We have had fish caught, and some good ones up to 8lbs+ but only sporadically, and we have not enjoyed the sort of sport that you would expect during our early season. However the water temperatures are climbing once again. The rain that has been falling for the last 24hrs is considerably warmer than the reservoir, and the streams flowing into Stocks are swollen and running crystal clear. This is should liven the trout into their feeding mode and they’ll be much more willing to take a fly.
Everyday throughout the last week we have seen buzzers hatching off the water in good numbers, and some anglers have found success fishing black super glues and diawl bachs. Cat boobies have also taken their fair share of fish. I dare say that washing lining a team of buzzers with a booby on the point will be featuring in the reports very soon.
I will be stocking the reservoir again tomorrow. Tight Lines Ben
