Sport: Dries were the order of the day. There were good numbers of terrestrials blown on to the water and there some small black flies hatching off.
The top rod was Tony Taylor who took eight fish in total to 4lbs. Tony fished from the shore around Bell Point. He caught five trout on a Bibio Midas pattern and three on a sort of fuchsia coloured diawl bach. He said that he could have had more if he had kept them on. He also commented on how hard the fish were fighting.
Also commenting on how hard the fish were fighting were Derek Moore and Felicity Appleton who had 10 trout to their boat and they didn’t get out until 2pm. They caught on Midas patterns and daddies fished dry and their best area was around Willow Island and Gull Island.
Neil Heath also got dries to work well with six fish to 3lbs, his best patterns were small black dries and his best area was along The Northern Shallows to Willow Island.
Staying in our Lake View Apartment and on their first day of their three day fishing trip was Max Szucho and his grandson Harvey Forbes. They made a cracking start with nine trout to 4lbs between them. They too caught mainly on dries but also picked up a couple on diawls. They also caught along the Northern end of the reservoir.
When I was out on the safety boat today I also saw a lot of rising fish out in open water over the Main Basin between Ben’s Beech and Black House Bay. Tight lines Ben
