SPORT: Today was hopefully last really windy day for the near future. The wind is set to drop away and the temperature is set climb throughout the week ahead. This didn’t help the competitors in the 2nd heat of the Stocks Pairs who had to brave the wet and windy conditons that confronted them this morning. Despite the weather John Calvert and Mike Laycock took just 3hrs and 45 minutes to catch their target of 10 trout. This gave them a total weight of 27lbs 3oz and the first place in the final. John and Mike fished a team of wets right up in the water to take their fish and their bag included 3 browns, 3 blues and 4 rainbows. Their best flies were dabblers and the octopus and their best areas were the Alders and Hollins Bay. In 2nd place were John Hood and John Sykes who fished blobs, again just subsurface, but this time it was along the Northern Shallows. In third place were Ian Ritchie and Ian Gaskell who completed their bag from Newclose Bay and off Bell Point. They too caught on wets fished high in the water. Taking the last place to into the final was Steve Bland and Phil Burgess who took 8 trout from various places around the reservoir. Winning the wild card to the final for catching the biggest fish was Ray Sanders and Jim Pickford who landed a cracking 3lb 7oz Blue trout. Well done to all those who fished today in adverse conditions and look out for the two remaining heats. I will publish the dates tomorrow. Tight lines Ben
