NOTABLE BAG:                       3 fish for 6lb 8oz
BEST RAINBOW:                    3lbs 12oz for J Lockley
BEST BROWN:                        Several at 2lb
BEST BLUE:                             N/A
BANK ROD AV:                       2.88 fish per angler
BOAT ROD AV:                       5.14 fish per angler
Sport: With good cloud cover and only a light breeze this morning it looked like we were in for a good day for dries, unfortunately the frigid temperature of the breeze that picked up put payed to this for a lot of the anglers on the water. Stocks regular Ken whiteside was out on the bank first thing this morning with his obliquetry UDF fly. He found the fish from the jetty round to Bell Point more than happy to take it, and in fact he did comment on having to change flies to try and re-tempt a big fish that had snapped him. Ken finished his half day with 8 fish. Also on the bank with 7 fish was Rick Lzyzewski, Rick found his fish with a drowned daddy pattern on a floating line. Meanwhile on the boats resident guide Paul Bebb was out with John Dunn, they had lots of action starting with sinking lines but ringing the changes with both nymphs and dries catching well. But the stars of the show today where travelling anglers Andy Everett and Martin wilda who between managed 25 fish to the boat. They fished various areas but found the east bank the most productive, they fished slow intermediate lines with small diawl bachs and crunchers to take the majority of their fish. Well angled guys. Its been great too be back at stocks for the last two weeks and great too catch up with old friends and make some new ones I’ll see you all out there on the water Pete.

Two Upcoming Comps: Open to all

The Stocks Dry Lines Open: Saturday August 8th

We are holding our annual open dry lines fly fishing competition on Stocks on Saturday August 8th.
This is one of the friendliest and most enjoyable matches of the season.
The competion is split into two 4hr sessions; the first will be fished from 9:30am to 1:15 pm. There is a break for a buffet lunch, we then recommence fish at 2:15 and the match finishes at 6:00pm.
There will be prizes for the 1st and 2nd places in each session and the overall winner across both sessions.
It s a great day at this time of year the best tactics are usually dries or washing lining diawl bachs so it bodes well for a floating line match.
The cost of entry is just £15 on top of your fishing fees and that includes your lunch and the chance to win some great prizes.
One of the best things about this competition is that it’s two matches in one day and no individual angler can win more than one prize, so you have every chance of winning something.
If you would like to enter please call the lodge on 01200 446602.

Stocks Fly Fishery Charity Fun Day in aid of North West Air Ambulance: Sunday August 30th 2015 10am-6pm

This event is planned as a ‘Blind Pairs’ Day. This is how it works:
You either choose your boat partner or alternatively you can be drawn with a boat partner.
You will kill your first four fish and release the next four.
At the ‘weigh in’ you will draw a number. The person with the corresponding number becomes your partner for competition results. The highest combined total weight of fish will determine the winning pair. Proceeds from any tagged fish caught to be shared with your partner.
The aim of the event is to have a fun, friendly day, with the North West Air Ambulance Service being the ultimate winner, gaining much needed funds for a much needed service.
Entrance Fee £49.50 (includes entry into tagged fish)

NOTABLE CATCHES:              9 fish for Bob Fitzpatrick & 8 fish for Ken Whiteside
NOTABLE BAG:                        5 fish for 10lbs 8oz John Turner
BEST RAINBOW:                     3lbs 0oz for Peter Morris
BEST BROWN:                         2lbs 8oz Ken Whiteside
BANK ROD AV:                         4.33 fish per angler
BOAT ROD AV:                         3.43 fish per angler
Sport: Ken Whiteside got the day off to a flying start with eight trout whilst fishing on a half day ticket from the shore this morning. He commented that he had plenty of other takes as well. Ken’s catch included rainbows, browns and a tiger trout! God know where that has come from, I haven’t stocked it, but he showed me the photo and sure enough it was a 3lb tiger in great condition. As Ken was on a sporting ticket all his fish went back. His best areas were Bell Point and Barn Quarry and his killer tactic was his own UDF Damsel fished on a floating line.
John Turner and Ken Robinson had seven rainbows and three wild brownies to their boat. They too said that they had plenty of other fish on and off. Their best method was a team of wets: Kate McLaren’s, Invictas and Snipe n Purples fished tight in down the east bank.
Bob Fitzpatrick had eight rainbows and a 2lb brownie to his boat. He caught on a washing line set up fished on a floating line and the majority of his fish came to the diawl bachs on the droppers. His best area was tight in from Black House Bay to Curry’s and The Alders to the Spillway. He commented on just how close in most of the fish he hooked were, no more than a couple of feet from the shore.
Yesterday there was no report posted but Warren Baveridge is worth a mention with five fish on olive nymphs and white lures. He fished from the shore at Two Trees.

NOTABLE CATCHES:           13 fish for Mark Tyndall
NOTABLE BAG:                       3 fish for 7lbs 8oz Julian & Robin Ainsworth
BEST RAINBOW:                    4lbs 0oz for Claudio Renzi
BEST BROWN:                       10oz wild fish Geoff Haslem
BANK ROD AV:                       ? fish per angler
BOAT ROD AV:                       3.50 fish per angler
Sport: Mark Tyndall was the top rod today with 13 trout. He and Geoff Haslem fished dries until mid afternoon to tempt nine fish then switched to blobs, when the rain came in, to take another six. Mark lost a big fish as well; unfortunately for him he had another rainbow on the point at the same time. Who knows it could have been his fourth tagged fish of the season! Their best areas were drifting towards The Causeway, over open water off Cook’s Creek and off Bell Point.
Paul Bebb was guiding today for Julian and Robin Ainsworth they had six trout their boat and missed a few chances on dries down the east bank. Not bad considering one of them hadn’t fly fished before and the other hadn’t done so for 30 years.
Other decent catches came to the washing lined black diawls and daddies.
I didn’t get any returns from the bank anglers but I did speak to Dave Hitchen, he’d had two and missed a couple on dries. I did hear from Mark Tyndall that there are good numbers of fish tight in on, either side of Bell Point. Tight Lines Ben
