Stocks Report: Saturday 30th June

DATE:                           Saturday 30th June
NOTABLE CATCH:    Simon Thurwell with 10 fish
NOTABLE BAG          5 fish for 12lb 4oz for Graeme Bell
BEST RAINBOW:      3lb for Simon Thurwell
BEST BROWN:         3lb 8oz for Mike Bullock
BEST BLUE:              Lots caught around 3lb
BANK ROD AV:        2.0 fish per angler.
BOAT ROD AV:        5.5 fish per angler.
SPORT: Tricky conditions with the weather changing all day long. One minute it would be sun the next a thunder storm. However despite these conditions Simon Thurwell had a great day on the boats landing 10 fish. Simon’s best tactic was to fish with nymphs and snatchers on a floating line with a figure of eight retrieve. Simon’s best area was up around the dam. Another angler having a good day was Graeme Bell who landed 5 fish around the newly flooded Northern Shallows. Graeme’s best method was to fish damsels and wets and a slow intermediate and just twitched them back tight into the shore. Andy Whiteside had a good days sport off the bank landing 6 fish from along Ben’s Beach. Andy’s best method was to fish a team of wets by casting them out and letting them swing around in the breeze and then just figure of eight them back along to the shore.

Ben managed a cracking fish that tipped the scales at 8lb 13oz. Top methods on the day seemed to be anything from pulling lures and boobies too dries off the top in the afternoon.
A cracking day was had by all and a big thanks goes out to John Mees and John Marshall who run a fantastic competition.
Not to mention a big thanks to all who took part and the support of everyone involved.

Stocks:Thursday 28th June.

DATE:    Thursday 28th June.
NOTABLE CATCH:    Several anglers landed 9+ fish.
NOTABLE BAG    4 fish weighing 18lb for Paul Bannister.
BEST RAINBOW:    11lb 4oz for Paul Bannister.
BEST BROWN:    3lb 2oz for Ian Walters.
BEST BLUE:    Several weighing 2lb 8oz.
BANK ROD AV:    2.40 fish per angler.
BOAT ROD AV:    3.75 fish per angler.
SPORT: Mixed weather today with high temperatures, sunshine and showers in equal measure and a bit of thunder. As most of the boat anglers were practicing for the competition tomorrow there is not much info I can give you as everyone has their best spots and patterns and they wont tell me as I am fishing tomorrow so the averages are purely based on returns handed in, in reality the boat averages would be a lot higher. As well as a lot of trout being caught there were also some belters including a 11lb 4oz rainbow that was caught by Paul Bannister at the back of willow island. Paul caught this huge fish on a size 16 dry fly and when hooked stripped all of his line off his reel several times, 20 mins later the huge rainbow was landed. Good angling Paul. See tomorrow for comp results.
See you on the water Paul.

Stocks reprt Wedneday 27th June

NOTABLE CATCH:    Paul Bebb 13, Pete Scholes and John Sykes 11
NOTABLE BAG    John Cristie 2 fish for 14lb

BEST BROWN:    Pete Scholes 1lb wild brownie
BANK ROD AV:    2.00fish per angler.
BOAT ROD AV:    3.5 fish per angler.
SPORT:  The water is certainly starting to look that bit cleare and the fish are certainly looking to the surface. Paul Bebb was out guiding today and between the two rods they managed 13 fish to the net and pretty much all to the dries! They found the fish all over the water. Not too far behind was Pete Scholes and John Sykes with 11. Again the dries did the damage and again they found them right across the water.
Fish of the day, In fact fish of the week came to the net for John Cristie, a stunning rainbow of 12lb 9oz. John caught the double on a black viva from bell point.

Stocks:Tuesday 26th June.

DATE:    Tuesday June 26th.
NOTABLE CATCH:    Several anglers caught 6.
BEST RAINBOW:    Plenty weighing 3lb.
BEST BROWN:    7lb for Brian Shresmith.
BEST BLUE:    Several weighing 2lb.
BANK ROD AV:    3.80 fish per angler.
BOAT ROD AV:    3.60 fish per angler.
SPORT: The reservoir is gradually clearing and it seems the fish are getting used to the extra water. Today whenever the wind dropped away trout could be seen rising all over both close to the edge and right out in the middle. Here is a rundown of the best catches recorded today. Fishing from the bank this morning was Ken Whiteside who landed 6 fish including browns up to 1lb 8oz and rainbows up to 3lb. Ken fished from Hartleys round to Hollins bay and caught his fish on a kiwi fly. Also enjoying good bank sport were Brian Shresmith and Eric Parsons who both landed 6 fish. Both anglers found various flies effective including dries and lures with a roving approach being the key. Included in Brians catch was a super brownie weighing 7 lb. Out on a boat this morning was John Sykes who caught 5 rainbows. John drifted all over and found fish in several different areas including the main basin. Another angler landing 6 fish was Jon Morgan Parker who caught his fish from a boat in Hollins bay. See you on the water Paul. PS Ben has just told me that he has stocked some huge fish into Bank House with both browns and blues well over double figures, if you fancy a crack at catching a double brownie or blue now might be a good time to take a trip to Caton!
