DATE January 13th to January 22nd
NOTABLE BAGS Mr P Slinn’s bag of 4 fish included a 10lb 8oz rainbow and weighed over 19lbs
……………………….Mr D Simmons caught all three trout species (rainbow, brown and blue).
BEST RAINBOW 10lbs 8oz Mr Slinn on a gold head damsel
BEST BROWN 10lbs 4oz Neil Dyson taken on a black n green lure from the Mill Pool
BEST BLUE 3lbs 8oz Dennis Tallentire on a bloodworm
………………………3lbs 8oz Norman Chapman on an Apps worm
ROD AVERAGE 3.85 trout per angler
SPORT: Bank House has remained ice free and has been fishing well. During the milder spell of weather the trout started to roam the lake in search of food and in doing so they came up into mid water. Dennis Tallentire had a great half days sport catching steadily on a mini cats whisker. Norman Chapman caught well on an apps worm and Mr D Simmons caught all over the lake and completed the Bank House McNab on black n green lure. Now the weather has cooled down again but our water circulation system kept us from freezing over and the trout have continued to play game. They have sunk a little deeper in the water and are now preferring a slow or static presentation but once hooked they are fighting really hard. Mr H Poland from Blackpool used black and olive fritzes to tempt a steady stream of trout and today Norman Chapman was back in action with a somewhat unorthodox tactic. He used a gold headed black fritz under the bung at a depth of 4 feet, if you are thinking of visiting us this is definitely worth a try. We saw another beautiful big brownie today it was tempted by Neil Dyson on a black n green lure fished on a floating line. (See picture below) Tight Lines Ben
Neil Dyson with another beautiful Brownie. It weighed 10lbs 4oz and safely returned to fight another day
DATE January 5th to January 12th
BEST BAG OF 4 12lbs to Darren Mayor on a gold headed buzzer
BEST RAINBOW 10lbs to Mr Bisgrove from Morecambe on a cat’s whisker
BEST BROWN 12lbs+ Andy Holden caught this on a sunburst kick ass (pic below)
BEST BLUE Lots of blues weighing 3lbs
ROD AVERAGE 5.16 trout per angler
SPORT: After what seemed like another ice age we have emerged rested and fishing well. The water has warmed from 0.5 degree to 5 degrees and its still rising. The rising temperature is making all the difference, the trout are becoming more and more active and the rod average reflects this. We are getting lots of limits caught and the trout are spread all over the lake. Dan Richmond used an Amber Apps Worm to great effect to tempt an excellent catch of rainbows and blues to 7lbs. He fished it on a floating line with a 12 foot leader. The trick was to count it down for 10 then to twitch it back in inch long twitches. Darren Mayor had another great day using gold head buzzers fished underneath an indicator. Darren has found most trout at a depth of about 4 feet, but if you’re not catching make sure you adjust the depth. Phil Bisgrove has been using a gold headed cat’s whisker to great effect and amongst his catches was a cracking 10lb rainbow. Phil has been fishing the cat slowly back on a 12 foot leader and a floating line. Yesterday (12th) Paul Burrows from Wigan used a zonker to on a floating line to tempt a great catch of rainbows and blues. The trout are definitely becoming more willing to chase. Tight lines Ben
Andy Holden caught this beautiful 12lb+ resident brownie on his birthday....not a bad present.
